Migraine Foundation Aotearoa New Zealand is ensuring migraine and our migraine community is represented at the upcoming General Practice Conference & Medical Exhibitions (GPCME).
We’ve secured an education stand at the 3-day conferences, held in Rotorua from 5–8 June 2025 and Christchurch from 14–17 August 2025. Our volunteer team has been busy developing resources for GPs, including factsheets on preventive and acute medications for migraine, myth-busting resources and patient resources.
We often receive emails from people asking us for help with strengthening GPs’ knowledge about migraine. Data from our Migraine in Aotearoa New Zealand (MiANZ) 2022 survey also revealed that sometimes GPs don’t have access to the most up-to-date information and best practice guidelines for migraine.
So this year we’ve made it our priority to connect and talk with as many GPs as we can. Our biggest opportunity is to have a presence at the two national GP conferences, which are attended by over 25% of New Zealand GPs throughout the country, as well as other health professionals such as nurse practitioners.
But attendance doesn’t come without a financial cost (as well as a significant time commitment from our team). We need to raise $6,000 to cover the financial costs associated with attending both conferences. We’ve received some funding from AbbVie, but this doesn’t cover all the costs to attend the conferences.
Our team are volunteers and give their time for free so we can continue to operate, but the reality is our charity is a business, and without money we can’t do what we want to do.
This May, please donate to our GP conference fundraiser so we can connect, talk and improve the understanding of migraine in the healthcare space. Every dollar donated will go directly to the GP conference costs.
We’ve listened to you, our migraine community, and we’re taking action to help improve migraine care in New Zealand, but we need your support to make this happen.
Please support us this month by making a donation.
